I am an author, copywriter, history buff and entrepreneur. People and history — especially baseball — fascinate me. I’ve penned three books on baseball: Bucketfoot Al: The Baseball Life of Al Simmons (2011), Big and Little Poison: Paul and Lloyd Waner, Baseball Brothers (2000), and Fouled Away: The Baseball Tragedy of Hack Wilson (1998), and am a member of the Society for American Baseball Research.

There’s no better place to come into contact with extraordinary ideas and people than in the marketplace and at a university. My work as journalist, public relations copywriter, and magazine editor at the University of California, Davis, has given me tons of experience in making complex topics jargon-free and easily digestible for everyday people.

Copywriting is the art of persuasive communication. Before UC Davis and baseball books, I learned about writing as a Congressional press secretary and newspaper reporter at the Sacramento Bee, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Naples Daily News. My education consists of a bachelor’s degree in political science from The Pennsylvania State University, and graduate studies in political science at the University of Pittsburgh and in journalism at the University of Florida.

Before college, I spent my teen summers growing up in Pittsburgh on the baseball diamonds, sandlot and organized. When I rolled up my sleeves to make a buck, I did so working at the local baseball batting cages while cutting countless lawns as a landscape laborer, where I listened to the voices of everyday America. In high school, as a wrestler, and in college, as a rugby player, I learned how to compete.

It is this gritty focus that I’ll bring to your copywriting project and my next book. Just give me a ring or ping if you want to learn more.
